The development of the watch industry in the Greater Bay Area reflects China’s role in the global watchmaking value chain. Since the late 20th century, manufacturing capacity from Hong Kong gradually shifted to cities like Shenzhen, Foshan, and Dongguan. This transition accelerated the development of supporting industries, craftsmanship, talent, and a complete supply chain ecosystem.
After years of accumulation, the region now offers a fully integrated system covering design, R&D, component manufacturing, assembly, and testing & certification.
Today, whether in traditional exports, OEM production, cross-border e-commerce, or the rise of new consumer brands, the Greater Bay Area remains closely connected to international markets.
In recent years, AI tools have been increasingly applied across design collaboration, demand analysis, supply chain management, and customer service. This has significantly improved responsiveness across the entire value chain.
More companies are now using digital tools to speed up prototyping, optimize production cycles, and better understand overseas market needs.
Across the region, from design and development to processing, assembly, testing, and certification, the system is highly mature. Materials such as sapphire, ceramic, and titanium are widely and reliably applied. CNC machining and automated inspection capabilities continue to improve.
